Hello my name is Tommie Bell and I currently in the southern area of the United States. As a child I was a typical good kid, good student, later a good solder and finally a good worker. A husband with kids the focus to continue being “good” was a great life style choice but I was clearly living a predictable automated life. Spending lots of time on road trips I’d find family friendly audible books from Barnes and Noble such as “The Alchemist” which triggered a series of book choice changes including the addition of “Think and Grow Rich”. Other than the Bible, these two books caused mind shift or even a life shift.
My true life’s journey changed and the automation of doing what I was told changed. Be warned that if you take this journey with me that everyone in your close circle, even well-meaning family members, may not approve of this change. You will learn that most relationships are built on receiving and if you change what you are giving to others such as your time, that might be a problem. First rule I feel of controlling your own mind is put what you know now in one basket and create a new basket. In this basket think about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Look at your own thought process, have you made it past life’s basic needs of food, shelter and security? I found that my major concern in life were these items alone, which was what I attributed so much time spent on television. After a good day at work I was ready to come home, spend time with family, watch television and repeat process tomorrow. That was no longer good enough, one item I quickly found was I loved music! I begin taking piano lesson so I could learn to play and sing. One step for man, one giant leap for mankind I thought, my life was changing.
Controlling your own mind starts with a shift in mental and spiritual thought. Some may ask what’s so life changing about this? In the book “The Alchemist” the young boy wanted to travel and find wealth so he set out on a journey. Not to introduce a spoiler of the book I found in reading it that I was on a journey but my ending was being formed by what was taught and expected of me from those I allowed to guide my life. Time for a change I thought because I no longer wanted to just do but be. My life started its change and the more I begin to just think and look at decisions internally the more I felt alive. As I begin to control my thoughts and actions I read “Think and Grow Rich” a book that by the title many relate to money but titles can be tricky. In this book Napoleon Hill talks about this concept of controlling your life and its destiny by first controlling your mind.
